De Hedendaagse Aardappeleters

Toen ik de promotiefoto voor de voorstelling “niksteverbergen” van de Nederlandse theatergroep ‘De Verleiders’ zag, dacht ik maar één ding, dat wil ik schilderen, maar in de stijl van Rembrandt!
De sfeer in het beeld lijkt op het originele schilderij van Vincent van Gogh’s “De Aardappeleters”, maar als groot fan van Rembrandt heb ik het in zijn stijl geschilderd.

Na het verkrijgen van de volledige toestemming van George van Houts (de acteur links op het schilderij) ben ik aan dit schilderij gaan werken en in augustus 2018 heb ik de klus geklaard in mijn atelier in Frankrijk.

“De Hedendaagse Aardappeleters” toont de portretten van de Nederlandse acteurs van links naar rechts; George van Houts, Pierre Bokma, Tom de Ket en Viktor Löw. Olieverf op doek 116 x 89 cm – 2018 (ongeveer de grootte van de originele ‘Aardappeleters’ van Vincent van Gogh).

“The Contemporary Potato Eaters’

When I saw the promotional photo for the performance “niksteverbergen” of the Dutch theater group ‘De Verleiders’, I only thought one thing, I want to paint that, but in the style of Rembrandt!
The atmosphere in the image is quit similar to the original painting of Vincent van Gogh’s “The Potato Eaters”, but as a big fan of Rembrandt I painted it in his style.

After obtaining full permission from George van Houts (the actor on the left in the painting), I started working on this painting and in august 2018 I finished the job in my studio in France .

“The Contemporary Potato Eaters” shows the portraits of the Dutch actors from left to right; George van Houts, Pierre Bokma, Tom de Ket and Viktor Löw. Oil on canvas 116 x 89 cm – 2018 (approximately the size of the original ‘The Potato Eaters’ of Vincent Van Gogh).
